Whaleless è un progetto dedicato a tutti gli artisti che vogliono esprimere la propria indignazione, rabbia, incredulità, vergogna e preoccupazione nei confronti della lenta estinzione dei grandi mammiferi marini. Inquinamento e pratiche di pesca insostenibili sono solo alcune delle cause che stanno mettendo a rischio di estinzione le balene. La loro estinzione sembra inevitabile mentre le sue conseguenze sono impossibili prevedere. La certezza è che l’intero ecosistema mondiale - non solo gli oceani – sarà profondamente colpito da questo cambiamento.
Il progetto è nato 4 anni fa sulle pagine di Pig magazine e sul sito www.whaleless.com. Dopo aver ricevuto centinaia di contributi da artisti di ogni parte del mondo (dagli Usa a Honk Kong, dalla Russia al Venezuela) e centinaia di migliaia di accessi unici al sito, Whaleless è sceso in strada con una serie di mostre site specific nelle maggiori città europee, nel tentativo aprire gli occhi dei visitatori;

“Whaleless” is an art project dedicated to those artists wishing to express their indignation, rage, shame, disbelief or concern about the slow disappearance of the fascinating giant marine mammals.
Pollution, whaling and unacceptable fishing practices are only some of the causes that seriously endanger their survival. It seems that they are slowly but inevitably growing extinct, while the consequences of their gradual disappearanceare impossible to predict. And yet we can be certain that the world’s ecosystem –not just the oceans’ but that of our entire planet –will be affected by this change.
The world would not be the same without whales, which is why action needs to be taken immediately!
The project “Whaleless” was born 3 years ago on the pages of the Italian Pig magazine and on
whaleless.com; after receiving more than 200 artworks from all over the world (from the USA to Honk Kong, from Russia to Venezuela) and hundreds of thousands of clicks on the website,
“Whaleless” is now on the road. The exhibition will then head to major European cities over the next few years, trying to raise awareness for this global environmental problem.
